Low-Level Laser Therapy: Is it Effective?

Hair loss is inevitable to some, especially those who are genetically bald. In fact, according to the statistics, androgenetic alopecia (AGA) – a genetic condition where men and women are suffering from hair loss – it is accounted that there are 21 million women and 35 million men in the US are now suffering from AGA.

Fortunately, problems with hair loss conditions can now be remedied by using Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) for hair growth. LLLT is also called as red light therapy, soft laser, low-level light therapy, photobiomodulation, and biostimulation. It is a painless and non-invasive procedure that uses infrared laser beams, treating various health conditions, including hair loss.

LLLT is FDA approved and clinically and scientifically proven safe and effective when restoring hair; but how effective is the low-level laser therapy?

In comparison to topical treatments, surgical procedures, and supplements, lasers can be considered as the only non-chemical and non-invasive solution to provide painless experience when stimulating hair growth.

When the light from the laser is absorbed by the human tissue, it automatically excites the cell’s biological reaction.  In terms of hair regrowth, the absorbed light penetrates to the scalp, stimulating the epidermal stem cells. Due to the increased blood flow caused by the LLLT, it helps increase the delivery of oxygen and needed nutrients to the hair follicles. After a few sessions with LLLT, finally, it helps stimulate the metabolic process, which is an essential phase for hair regrowth. Also, at the final phase, the LLLT ensures prevention of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) build-up, one of the primary causes of hair loss, within the hair follicles.

What can LLLT do?

  • It helps to increase the local blood flow
  • It helps decrease inflammation
  • It helps stimulate the hair follicles for hair growth
  • It helps make the thin, weak, and wispy hair follicles to become stronger, thicker, and healthier.

The efficiency of the treatment is still yet to be explored, however, there are already several claims and current studies that had proven that LLLT has promoted hair growth. In fact, in a recent study, where there are 44 male respondents aging 18 to 48 years old have attested significant hair growth with a result of 39 percent hair growth improvement within 16 weeks of treatment. This is one of the reasons why several hair experts are now promoting laser for hair growth to their clients.

The results, on the other hand, may depend on the severity of the androgenetic alopecia, the area of the scalp where hair loss is triggered, and the LLLT treatment and device that were used, which you may review here: .

Is it worth the price?

Again, in comparison to other options, LLLT devices are now statistically producing significant hair restoration results. Although the science behind the efficacy of LLLT is still unknown, it is a fact that it had helped a lot of people who have suffered hair loss.

So, is it worth the price? Yes, it is.

So, if you are currently suffering from alopecia or other conditions that cause hair loss, consult your doctor now and talk about LLLT device.
